Our Current Campaigns
The Housing Action Research Team (ART) is an action group made up of leaders from our member organizations who are dedicated to addressing housing issues in Vancouver. Currently, the team is focused on advocating for more affordable housing, with a particular emphasis on the development of cooperative housing (co-ops) within the city. We are actively working to influence local housing policies and raise awareness of the critical need for sustainable, community-oriented housing solutions. If you are passionate about affordable housing and want to get involved in this important work, we invite you to join us. For more information or to get involved, please contact one of the Housing ART co-leads, Liam Maclure, at [email protected].
The Climate Research Action Team launched earlier this year. In that time, we have been educating ourselves on municipal climate issues, and meeting with climate experts to learn more about the possible issues MVA could push the next municipal government to work with us on. To ensure we take action on the issues rooted in the experiences of our communities, we will also be organizing listening sessions in our organizations to talk about how the climate crisis has affected our day-to-day lives. If you are interested in organizing a listening session in your community and want support, email [email protected].
At the heart of MVA is our Strategy Team, which sets the direction for the organization’s work. Members of every member organization are encouraged to join this team and have a voice in shaping our campaigns and initiatives. The Strategy Team meets regularly to assess the progress of our action groups, identify new areas of focus, and ensure that our work aligns with the needs of our communities. In addition to the Strategy Team, we also have a Communications Team for those with an interest in online communication. This team helps amplify MVA’s work through newsletters, social media, and other digital platforms, making sure our campaigns and successes are visible to the wider public. If you have skills or an interest in writing, social media management, or graphic design, the Communications Team would be a great way to get involved. For more information or to get involved, please contact us at [email protected].
Join the Friends of MVA
Individuals can become members of MVA by joining Friends of MVA. Membership dues for individuals are typically $50–$200 per year, which then serve as Friends of MVA’s contribution to MVA.
The Friends of MVA collectively elect a delegate to represent the organization at the MVA Annual General Meeting. As a group, the Friends hold one organizational vote at the Delegates Assembly, equal to other member organizations.
We’d love to have you join! Please contact us to learn more and take the next steps.
